Alan and I took off sightseeing all over the city my first day. Feels nice to play awkward tourist and take it easy for a bit before heading off to the "imaginary Moldova land" where I'll most likely be fending off traffickers who want to sell my body. Our first adventure was a walk through the park along the Dnepro River and a brief visit to the Ukraine-Russia Friendship Arch. We eventually made our way to the "Dom s Khimerami" (house with gargoyles). We're not really sure what it's for, but it has elephant heads. Lots of Orthodox temples. St. Andrew's is one of the best (Alan's fav) and sits at the top of the cobblestone street where I thought about buying duffel bags full of cool Soviet and Ukrainian treasures. (Sorry yosh, I panicked last minute and stole your jacket and now you have to find out this way. Don't be mad.)

confusion, causes célèbres, and spinning apologia

To be nothing in the self-effacement of humility, yet, for the sake of the task, to embody its whole weight and importance in your bearing, as the one who has been called to undertake it. To give to people, works, poetry, art, what the self can contribute, and to take, simply and freely, what belongs to it by reason of its identity. Praise and blame, the winds of success and adversity, blow over such a life without leaving a trace or upsetting its balance.
Towards this, so help me, God--
[Dag Hammarskjold]
if my thought-dreams could be seen, they'd probably put my head in a guillotine.
but it's alright, ma, it's life and life only...
